Beginner’s Guide to Spell Candle Magick and Colour Correspondences

Magic is defined as ‘the power of apparently influencing events by using mysterious or supernatural forces.’ Magic allows us to overcome a range of issues in daily life and empower ourselves to take action to invite the change we wish to create in our lives.

Magick takes several forms with some complex rituals taking days or even weeks to complete. Not to mention sometimes requiring months of intricate planning and needing to be performed at specific times of the year. One of the biggest advantages of candle magicking however, is its simplicity.
Candle magic has been perform for many years and most of us have practiced candle magic at least once in our lives, when making a wish on your birthday cake! Other cultures often include candle lighting in various traditions.
Birthday Wish is a common form of Candle Magic!

Benefits of Candle Magick

  • Rituals can be as simple or as complex as you feel drawn to do
  • Supplies are cost effective and easy to come across
  • Can be performed anywhere; indoors or outdoors
  • Candle Magic already represents the 4 elements. Earth - When unlit, Fire - Once lit, Water - When the wax melts and Air - from the smoke.

How to perform a simple candle spell

When using candles for magic always use a new candle for each spell. Candles will hold the vibration from the last use. Begin by cleansing and charging the candle/s with your intention before any ritual to increase the effectiveness. This can be done purely with the intention but some choose to anoint the candles with special oils, blends, herbs or carve runes, words or symbols into the candle. Light the candle while visualising what you wish to achieve. Sit and meditate on your goal while the candle is burning down. Once you feel intuitively that you are finished, snuff out the candle or sit with the candle until it has finished burning. PLEASE NOTE: Never leave a candle burning unattended. If the candle remains and you wish to perform the same spell again, always keep the unlit candle in a safe place and treat with respect for your goal.  Each time you light the candle, renew your intention. Once the candle has burnt all the way down or you are finished using the candle either bury the remaining wax outside or dispose of it safely.

How can I use a colour in spell casting and magick?

Colours are made up of different vibrational frequencies. As the world is vibration and we are vibration we connect to these on subtle levels, sometimes without even being aware.

What type of candle should I use?

For quick one time spells generally Chime candles or Tea light candles are a wonderful solution. Spells that are performed over several days benefit from a taper candles. For spells that are required for a week or longer pillar or jar candles last the longest. High quality Jar Candles will often come in white or only very select colours. Tying a coloured ribbon around the base of the candle jar or writing your wish on a corresponding coloured paper and safety burning, can help bring in the energies of the colour you are wishing to draw in.

  • Hi !
I loved what you did, it was really helpful, thank you :)
I was wondering, is it possible to take a white candle and paint over it ? For example if I paint a white candle in red, will I have the benefits of the red or the white ?
